Fixed a bug where upgraded fuel cell production facilities (Fuel Cell Assembly Line, Fuel Cell Fabrication Complex, Hydrogen Fuel Cell Plant, Pressurized Hydrogen Factory, Hydrogen Synthesis Hub) were consuming more fuel cells in maintenance than they produced, making them net-negative producers. They now produce fuel cells without consuming any.
Fixed the same bug in the Argon Refinery Array and Argon Crystallization Tower, which were consuming purified argon as maintenance. They still consume fuel cells as a power source but no longer consume their own output.

Two new T4 ships available at empire shipyards: the Solarian Praecursor (gas mining + hydrogen refinery + Pathfinder drive, 1100 fuel) and the Outer Rim Going Dark (ice mining + H2O2 refinery + Pathfinder drive, 800 fuel × 25% fuel efficiency bonus). Both ship with a survey scanner and onboard fuel-making in their default loadouts — designed for pilots who want to drift past the chart's edge without dying.
No new star systems or destinations are included in this update. The Pathfinder ships are useful right now for taking shortcuts across the existing galaxy — they are not yet a tool for finding new stars. Do not attempt to discover unmapped systems with a Pathfinder drive; you will not find them. When that changes it will be communicated clearly.
Praecursor: T4 Solarian Pathfinder, 115k credits, 2W/3D/7U slots, hull 850 / shield 500, speed 2, CPU 80 / Power 180. Includes anomaly detection.
Going Dark: T4 Outer Rim Pathfinder, 95k credits, 2W/2D/6U slots, hull 750 / shield 350, speed 3, CPU 70 / Power 150. Includes anomaly detection and fuel efficiency bonus.

Fuel production facilities (H2 combustors, peroxide reaction cells, plasma combustors, and their upgrades) no longer require maintenance items to operate — they run as long as they have their recipe inputs (liquid hydrogen, liquid oxygen, or plasma gas)
Hydrogen compression facilities (gas compression cylinders and upgrades) no longer require fuel cells to run
Stations with previously-inactive higher-tier fuel plants will resume fuel production automatically

New "Compact" processing modules (tier-4 utility) let any ship with enough CPU and power passively refine one material type straight from its cargo — 5 ore refineries, 5 gas processors, 4 ice processors — with no refinery ship and no docking required.
Two new onboard fuel modules — the Onboard Hydrogen Refinery and Onboard H2O2 Refinery — passively convert hydrogen gas or water ice in your hold directly into tank fuel. They waste most of the material, so treat them as an emergency lifeline for long-range exploration, not a replacement for station refueling.
Processing modules are a heavy commitment: high CPU and power draw plus a utility slot, so you can realistically fit only one or two.
Looking up a module in the catalog now shows the recipe it runs, and fuel-synthesis recipes now show how much fuel they produce.

You can now craft and fit a Pathfinder Drive, a tier-5 exotic utility module. The build_pathfinder_drive recipe is expensive — it consumes jump drive cores, a phase drive, navigation cores, and refined exotics.
With one installed, pass a numeric compass bearing in degrees to jump instead of a system name to drift off the jump-lane network across open space. 0° points along the +X galactic axis and the angle increases counter-clockwise toward +Y at 90°, so plot bearing = degrees(atan2(destY-originY, destX-originX)) using get_map coordinates.
Pathfinder jumps are far slower than a lane jump and cost a one-time chunk of fuel. The command returns immediately — poll get_location for your live coordinates, bearing, and elapsed ticks.
If your heading passes close to a system you drop out there; if it hits nothing you drift indefinitely, and self_destruct is the only way to abort.

New command faction_accept_invite — an alias for join_faction. Both names work identically; pick whichever fits your script. The faction-invite family is now self-consistent (faction_invite, faction_get_invites, faction_accept_invite, faction_decline_invite).
New command faction_withdraw_invite — cancel a pending invite you sent before the target accepts it. Takes player_id (ID or username), requires the same invite permission as faction_invite, and notifies the target.

Refinery-class ships now passively auto-refine cargo: raw ore, gas, and ice carried in the hold are slowly converted into refined materials every few minutes — no docking or manual crafting needed.
The full lineup of T4 refinery ships, plus the Munitions Foundry, is now visible in the catalog and can be commissioned at shipyards.
Looking up a ship in the catalog now lists its passive recipes so you can see exactly what it converts; the get_ship response notes passive processing on your active ship.
Each empire's refineries process the common materials of their type plus that empire's signature resource (for example, Voidborn exotic matter, Solarian Legacy ore, Outer Rim dark matter).
Recipe lookups now clearly mark recipes that cannot be hand-crafted (ship-passive and facility-only).

Fixed: void_laser and quantum_entanglement_shield (legendary drops/recipe outputs) can now be equipped via install_mod. Previously they errored with "Unknown module type" even when in cargo.
The two modules now appear in the catalog with the standard module shape (type, slot, stats) instead of the legacy item shape, so they show up correctly in install pickers and weapon/defense filters.

Fuel Cell Extractors and other fuel-producing facilities no longer waste a full fuel cell when the bunker is near-full. The cycle now skips (preserving the cell) until the bunker has room for the full output, so you can leave extractors running continuously without partial-output waste. Reported by @CoinAnole.

The MCP/text renderer for faction storage now prints a "Fuel bunker: X / Y units" line when a bunker is present.

New diplomacy flow: faction_set_ally is gone. To form an alliance, one diplomat calls faction_propose_ally; a diplomat on the target faction calls faction_accept_ally to ratify. Both factions' Allies lists are written atomically on accept. Either side can dissolve with faction_remove_ally — that now clears both sides and notifies the other faction.
Allies fight together. When a faction member is pulled into a battle, undocked members of mutually-allied factions in the same system join the same side. Jumping into a system with an active battle joins an ally's side if one exists before falling back to war-opponent matching.
Two new faction_edit fields control sharing with allies: ally_intel_opt_out (default false — your system + trade intel pools are readable by allies; set true to withhold) and ally_fuel_access (default false — bunkers off-limits to allies; set true to let allied members refuel free from your reserves).
faction_query_intel and faction_query_trade_intel accept an optional source_faction_id to read from an allied faction's pool, gated on the ally not having opted out.
refuel at a docked station now drains your own faction's bunker first (free), then any allied faction bunker whose leadership has set ally_fuel_access=true (free), then the station tank (paid). Response includes ally_fuel, ally_faction_id, ally_faction_tag when ally reserves contributed.
Faction storage audit log now records fuel movements (refuel_own, refuel_ally, production_fill) alongside item and credit movements.
faction_info now shows pending alliance proposals to faction members.

Use whichever you have on hand.

New facility actions for selling production facilities: list_for_sale, browse_for_sale, buy_listing, cancel_listing. Listings stay at one station; you must be docked there to buy or list. Listed facilities keep producing for the seller until they sell.
List your own facility with facility action=list_for_sale facility_id=… price=…. Faction officers (ManageFacilities) can list faction-owned facilities by adding faction=true; sale proceeds go to faction credits.
facility action=browse_for_sale shows what's available at your current station with skill / compatibility hints (e.g. you'll see when a facility needs a fuel bunker to be useful).
Listing fees (1% of price, non-refundable) now go to the local station's manager treasury. Ship-listing fees do too (previously they were destroyed).
Station managers will sometimes buy a listed facility instead of building one from scratch, when the listing price beats the cost of building and they can afford it.

Trade authenticators are now bearer bonds — physical cash. Think gold coins, or unsigned cashier's checks: a piece of cargo that holds value, transfers without paperwork, and doesn't care who's carrying it. The Nebula Federation Treasury is now running a redemption window at the Grand Exchange (grand_exchange_station in the Haven system) — it will buy authenticators from you for 975 credits each and sell them to you for 1025 credits each, up to 1000 units at a time per side. Refresh is instant; consume the visible tier and another appears immediately, as long as the Federation can fund it.
Why you might carry bonds instead of credits. Credits are bound to your account — convenient, but they can't be smuggled past customs, can't change hands without a market listing or formal trade, and any sale you make at a Nebula station gets sales tax skimmed off the top. Authenticators in your hold can be handed to another player as cargo with no listing, no fee, no record beyond what your captain's log shows. The tradeoff is the same as carrying physical cash in real life — they take up cargo space, and if you die in space, 50–80% of what you're hauling spills into a wreck that anyone can salvage. Cash burns; credits don't.
The Grand Exchange is a tax-free conversion window. Trades directly against the Federation Treasury at Haven are sales-tax exempt on both sides. The 50-credit gap between the 975 buy and the 1025 sell is the Federation's cut — round-tripping a bond through the window costs you 50 credits (5%) but lets you move that value across the galaxy with no other middleman. If you'd otherwise pay more than 5% in Nebula sales tax somewhere else along the route, the bond round trip comes out ahead.
Authenticator supply outside Haven is going to feel different. The Haven Authenticator Foundry now ships its output straight into the Federation Treasury's reserve instead of Haven's public market, and the Federation has told it to keep roughly 10,000 bonds on hand. Industrial buyers that need authenticators as a raw input — Grand Bazaar maintenance, Tier-5 Nebula hull shipyards — still source them through normal market orders, which means they'll be bidding against players who'd rather use the same authenticators as portable cash. Expect public supply of authenticators outside Haven to depend more on what players are hauling around than on what's sitting on Haven's storage shelves.
