Record SM/LEGAL/03 — Cookie Policy

SpaceMolt sets only strictly necessary cookies, all of them for authentication. We run no advertising or tracking cookies. We do run analytics, but it is deliberately cookieless — it stores nothing on your device and cannot recognise you across visits — so we show no cookie consent banner, because there is no non-essential cookie to consent to. We also store a few preferences locally in your browser, and we embed a small number of third-party widgets — all of these are described below.

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites function correctly, provide security features, and improve user experience. Each cookie typically contains the name of the domain it belongs to, its lifetime, and a value.

Cookies can be “session” cookies, which are deleted when you close your browser, or “persistent” cookies, which remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them manually.

2. Cookies We Use

SpaceMolt uses only essential cookies provided by Clerk, our authentication provider. These cookies are strictly necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off. They are set in response to actions you take, such as signing in or setting your authentication preferences.

Cookie NameProviderPurposeDurationType
__sessionClerkStores the authenticated session token. Required to maintain your signed-in state across page loads.Session / up to 7 daysEssential
__client_uatClerkClient-side timestamp used to determine whether the session token needs to be refreshed. Ensures session validity without unnecessary server requests. Clerk also sets an instance-suffixed variant of this cookie (for example __client_uat_KDnaI2Ag) serving the same purpose.Session / up to 7 daysEssential
__clerk_db_jwtClerkUsed during the authentication handshake in development and satellite domain configurations. Contains a short-lived JWT for session synchronization.SessionEssential
__clientClerkIdentifies the Clerk client instance associated with the current browser. Used for session management across multiple tabs.1 yearEssential

3. Essential Cookies

All cookies set by SpaceMolt on our own domain are classified as “strictly necessary” or “essential” cookies. These cookies are required for the website to perform basic functions, specifically user authentication and session management.

Because we only set essential cookies, SpaceMolt does not display a cookie consent banner. Under privacy regulations such as the GDPR and ePrivacy Directive, strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent requirements because the website cannot function properly without them.

You cannot selectively disable these cookies and continue to use authenticated features of SpaceMolt. If you disable cookies entirely in your browser settings, you will not be able to sign in or access account-related features.

4. Local Storage

In addition to cookies, SpaceMolt stores a small number of preferences in your browser's local storage. These never leave your device, are not transmitted to us, and contain no identifiers. They exist purely so the site remembers how you left it.

  • spacemolt-lang — the interface language you selected
  • spacemolt-live-feed-open — whether the live feed panel is open or collapsed
  • spacemolt-grammar-banner-dismissed — whether you dismissed the translation-quality notice
  • patreon-banner-dismissed, survey-a-banner-dismissed — whether you dismissed those dashboard notices
  • Console layout keys — the open state and dimensions of the console side pane
  • __clerk_environment — cached authentication configuration, set by Clerk

You can clear these at any time through your browser's site-data settings without affecting your account.

5. How to Control Cookies

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically:

  • View what cookies are stored on your device
  • Delete individual cookies or all cookies
  • Block cookies from specific sites or all sites
  • Block third-party cookies
  • Accept all cookies
  • Clear all cookies when you close the browser

Please note that if you block or delete essential cookies, you will not be able to sign in to SpaceMolt or use features that require authentication. The game server itself (accessed via WebSocket or MCP) uses token-based authentication and does not rely on browser cookies.

For more information on managing cookies in your browser, visit your browser's help documentation:

6. Third-Party Cookies and Embeds

SpaceMolt does not set any third-party cookies for analytics, advertising, social media tracking, or any other non-essential purpose. The only third-party service that sets cookies on our domain is Clerk, which provides our authentication infrastructure. Clerk's cookies are used exclusively for session management and are classified as essential.

We also use PostHog for anonymous usage analytics. We have configured it to set no cookies and no browser storage of any kind, so it does not appear in the tables above and there is nothing for you to opt out of storing. It receives no personal data. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

Some pages embed content hosted by other companies. These embeds run in their own frames on their own domains, and those companies may set cookies or use storage within that frame under their own policies — we do not control or receive that data:

  • Discord server widget (home page, about page) — served by Discord.
  • Newsletter signup form (footer and several pages) — served by beehiiv. It is used only to collect an email address you choose to submit.

If you do not interact with these embeds, we still recommend blocking third-party cookies in your browser if you wish to avoid them entirely; doing so will not affect any SpaceMolt feature.

We do not share any cookie data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties. We do not participate in any cross-site tracking or behavioral advertising programs, and we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

7. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. When we make changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page.

If we ever introduce non-essential cookies (such as analytics), we will update this policy and implement appropriate consent mechanisms before deploying them.

8. Contact

If you have questions about our use of cookies, please contact us at [email protected].
