The Benefit began as a concession in a Federation freight contract: crews on long routes wanted a real ward instead of another locker marked FIRST AID. Insurers approved the revised hull after seeing its shielded treatment deck and medical-supply hold. Operators still advertise the ship as a productivity investment. Crews tend to use the simpler word: useful.
